Romulus and RemusA Poem by Morpheusmythological poemRomulus and Remus according to the ancient legend of the mind twin founders of the empire lost in time it is not based on actual historic fact, nor can it be said to be the truth exact brothers and sons of the God named Mars he himself known as the God of Wars mothered by a vestal virgin of a king Rhea Silvia the voices sing Amulius the kings brother stole his throne and forced the queen to live a lone no other children of hers shall she bare so no decendent can ever claim repair he siezed the infant brothers naked they did shiver placing them in a basket threw them into the river hoping of course that they would drown but to his dismay by a she-wolf they were found the shepherd Faustulus, who took them home and looked after them until they were grown their main goal to build a city of their own selection disagreement like the wind changed their direction
Remus favoured the Aventine Hill but legends contradict this ancient claim Romulus wanted to use the Palatine Hill conversation of doubts remain there still so each built their own city enclosed by walls with fabulous buildings and fabulous halls Remus visited his brother and made fun of his work scoffing at his structure of defense his face a smirk Romulus was so annoyed by his brother's insult that he killed Remus and dared anyone revolt if anyone chanced to make mockery of him would be their last attempt at a whim Romulus and Remus were brothers of lore but there is no proof none at all for sure the Roman myths will live long in our heads dreaming the dreams at night in our beds © 2010 Morpheus |
