A Poem by Morgasm

In the bone cage,

A condemned heart

Served its sentence

In the cramped conditions

Of a prison of ribs

With empty lungs for cellmates

Who just breathed

And breathed,

And breathed;

Steady and relentless.

Then one day

You came around

And slid your keys

Into the lock

And the door sprang open

Creaking on rusty bone hinges

And my heart,

Wizened and shrunken

Stumbled on unsteady legs

out of the jail

And into the light

Squinting against the brightness

Of freedom

So long unknown

And suddenly took off limping

Then broke into a lope

And disappeared at a sprint

Looking for you

I've got notebooks full of poetry, essays, stream-of-consciousness journaling and other randomness, and all it does is sit on a shelf or in a drawer or in a closet, doing nothing and serving no one. .. more..
