Dear Son

Dear Son

A Poem by Morgan A Lynch

Dear Son,

Make sure you listen to your grandma
And do everything you dream of doing

Though I am not coming home from this desert
I will still be with you
I am the wind that blows through your red hair
The sun that shines on your face
I will live on in your heart

I am sorry I won’t be there for your first day of school
Take you fishing for the first time
Throw the football around in the front yard
Help you with your homework at the kitchen table

Though I am not coming home from this desert
I will still be with you
I am the wind that blows through your red hair
The sun that shines on your face
I will live on in your heart

I am sorry I won’t be there for your homecoming dance
Help you with your tie for your prom
Watch her walk down the ail when you say I do

Love you always and forever mommy

this part made the tears come out. it reminded me of what just happend. kind of like something a father would say to his child. you know what i mean. very emotionaly written..must have been hard to write.

Very sad, both for the child and the parent. Being retired Navy and a Vietnam vet, I know too well these thoughts.

Wow. This is very touching, definitely makes me a little misty... I'm glad to see another writer give a tribute to our service men and women something I think everyone should do.

Awsome job!

You said it well for those who couldn't. You really have a touch for those over there. It helps to have been there. Thanks for sharing this. It was really quite touching and pulls the heartstrings hard. Minor spelling checks [like aisle] but otherwise, very good work. You probably could have carried the story a little longer but the trick in poetry is to keep it relatively short and poignant. Which you did well. Thanks for sharing this.

Cheers!
Doc.

I seem to remember this one and it is still just as touching as the first time I read it. That dreaded feeling of not being around for your childs important days and all the meaning ful little things. I too am glad this isn't something you had to live. Wonderful piece darling.
