The Gates of Hell

The Gates of Hell

A Poem by Morag

The gates of hell have opened wide,
Crashing in a blaze so high the flames reached up through the sky,
The flames the call me compelling me near,
I hear them whisper in my ear,
I try to resist the call they send to me,
Compelling me to plunge towards the sea.
I block my ears and close my eyes,
avoiding the call to the flames I despise,
The plunge they compel me to take will surely be my death,
but I listen as they tell me the plunge will be for the best.
I look at my life and what it holds for me,
I think of all my love and future family.
I scream to the sky that it isn't my time,
but they fill up my mind with doubt on the decision to live or to die.
