The Letters

The Letters

A Poem by Moonlight
"

How to say goodbye...

"

I sat and played with matches while you watched.

A burst of light,
an acrid scent,
and then…

I tossed a match; we watched the flame take hold.
The shavings first,
our letters next,
and then…

I threw some more, we watched the fire grow bold.
Sweet cherry smoke,
your hand in mine,
and then…

I turned away; you watched the coals grow cold.
The water rose,
the sand swirled in,
and then?

We left and let the ash remember 'when'...

Such a beautiful vision you create with your words. The flow of the poem and your words was excellent. You brought me to the sea and a beautiful night with your words. Thank you for the beautiful poem.

That was amazing and beautiful! I liked how it flowed and that the last words of the first sentence of each stanza rhymed. That was nifty

Moonlight, this was a stunning portrayal of a ceremony between two people, lovers maybe, saying good-bye, symbolically, to each other. It's an amazing piece of work and I truly enjoyed reading it.

Aw, such a sweet poem. All I can think of is sitting on the beach near my old house with my brother and sister and watching the tide roll in and out.

Beautiful poem. :)

Very pretty, I like how it's both dark yet beautiful at the same time.
