Listen to the sea singA Poem by Amy TaoA poem threaded with melancholy.Listen to the sea sing
On those breezy full-moon nights When men dream in deep slumber, And the world dark save
streetlights, Listen to the sea sing . . .
A lament of the blue sea A song full of loneliness Of the young woman- the sea Listen to the sea sing
The sea was once not the sea, But a lovely young maiden, Once happy and carefree Listen to the sea sing
She sings of company, She sings of joy and freedom Yearning for accompany Listen to the sea sing
Daily the sea watches us, Watches us play at the beach, Her lonely days are endless Listen to the sea sing
Taste the salt in the sea spray, Her salty tears of sadness, See her face mournful and gray, Listen to the sea sing
Breathe in her salty fresh scent Feel her silky soft dark hair Hear her heart-felt sad lament Listen to the sea sing
Her voice low and musical, As she recalls the old days, And the wind joins the vocal Listen to the sea sing
Notes pure as honey and sharp The whisper of the water Is the music of her harp Listen to the sea sing
Her friends the stars and the
moon, Comfort her and dry her tears, And sing with her to the tune Listen to
the sea sing
Her heart’s deepest desire Is to be joyful and free Escape the sea sapphire Listen to the sea sing
On those breezy full-moon nights When men dream in deep slumber, And the world dark save
streetlights, Listen to the sea sing . . . © 2013 Amy Tao
