Chapter 2A Chapter by Amy TaoHere's the second chapterThird period was swimming. Why is the changing room always so crowded? Kimberly thought as she weaved through the crowd, trying to find a cubicle to change in. After she locked the door, Kimberly set her duffel bag on the ground and unbuttoned the school blouse. She wore her spy suit underneath it. The spy suit was made of a thin material that was bullet proof, waterproof and also thin and was able to blend in with the colour of Kimberly’s skin. Unless someone stared at it for a really long time, they wouldn’t even see it. Kimberly smiled wryly as she unbuttoned the pale green skirt. None of her friends had ever suspected that she was a spy for CIA, the Central Intelligence Agency. To them, Kimberly was just a plain Year 11 girl whose was only special point was that she was unusually sporty, thanks to the grueling training she had been through ever since she had been adopted by CIA when she was four. In an effort to help her fit in, CIA had registered her in school. No one in the school ever knew or even suspected that she was a spy. Kimberly folded her clothes into a neat pile which she put into the duffel bag. She took out her school swimming suit and wore it over the spy suit, trusting it to not reveal itself. She took out her goggles and picked up her duffel bag and left out of the changing room. *** A whistle pierced the air. Kimberly, along with seven other swimmers, dived off the blocks and started swimming. The swimming instructor had asked them to warm up by swimming ten laps of the pool. Kimberly dived in, her posture perfect and soon shot ahead of the other swimmers, her arms and legs moving really quickly. Soon she was done with her assigned ten laps and so sat along the side. After a while, two other swimmers joined her. One was a muscular boy whose name she did not know, a new student, and the other was Stephanie. Stephanie flicked her dripping curls. “Hey, stupid,” she greeted. Kimberly ignored her. “Hey, that’s not very nice,” the boy said, “stop insulting her.” Kimberly flashed a smile of gratitude at the muscular boy, who met her eyes, returned it and said, “How are you so fast?” Kimberly blushed a little and shrugged her shoulders. Persistent, the boy continued, “I never knew a person who could beat my swimming, who are you?” “I’m not that good,” Kimberly said modestly, “my name is Kimberly.” “Kimberly the stupid,” Stephanie retorted. The boy flashed a look at her which silenced her. “James,” the boy introduced himself and extended a hand to Kimberly, who took it shyly and shook it. The rest of the swimming lesson passed in a blur, and all Kimberly could remember afterwards was James’s rough but warm hand enveloping hers in his. © 2013 Amy TaoAuthor's Note
