Chapter 1A Chapter by Amy TaoKimberly is an undercover CIA spy. She goes to Oakville Middle School like any normal teenager, but she is not normal. Her eleventh year at school turns into a mess of friendship, betrayal, love.15-year old Kimberly looked around at the crowds of teenagers. All around her were boys and girls, wearing the standard green and white Oakville Middle School. She tugged at her own school uniform. Under it, she was wearing a tight camouflage spy-suit adorned with only the CIA logo embroidered on with gold thread. The crossed swords with the majestic eagle. Kimberly shrugged her schoolbag into place and walked into the crowd and scanned the crowd for her friends. Kimberly’s sharp eyes spotted a flash of long blond hair and made her way to its owner. “Hey!” Kimberly said. The girl, her best friend, Jocelyn smiled. “Hi Kimberly, didn’t see you coming. So, how was your summer holiday? What’s up?” This was one of their habits. Kimberly pretended to look up, then raised an eyebrow and answered sarcastically, “the celling.” The two girls momentarily forgot about the crowd they were in and laughed. Deep inside, Kimberly was grateful that she did not have to lie to Jocelyn about her holiday, which she had spent in spy training. “D’ you know where Francesca is?” Jocelyn asked. Francesca was a good friend of theirs. Kimberly flicked a strand of dark brown hair out of her eyes and scanned the crowd. “Nope, wasn’t she on the same school bus as you?” Kimberly asked. “Uh-yes, but somehow I didn’t see her just now,” Jocelyn answered. Kimberly raised an eyebrow. That was strange, she thought, Francesca was usually early to school and liked to meet up with her friends before classes started. “Oh there you are,” a voice said from behind Kimberly. Kimberly spun to see Francesca standing behind her and exchanged a glance with Jocelyn. “Speaking of the devil and the devil arrives,” she said. Francesca gave them a slight smile, “Hey, I’m no devi-” Someone cleared her throat and interrupted her sentence. Standing beside Francesca was a pretty girl with blond curls. She wore a smirk on her face. Kimberly instantly disliked her. Jocelyn, ever the kind one smiled and asked, “Hey, I’m Jocelyn. What’s your name?” The girl rolled her eyes as if they were dumb. “Stephanie, duh?” “So, are you new to Oakville Middle?” Jocelyn continued a little flustered at the girl’s rude reply. “What do you think?” Stephanie replied. Jocelyn opened her mouth, wanting to reply but not knowing what to say. Stephanie smirked. “Close that mouth or it’ll catch flies, stupid.” She caught Francesca’s shoulders and steered her away from the two girls, “come on Francesca, let’s find people more intellectual to talk to.” Jocelyn gave up on her casual attitude. “How dare she insult me?” she seethed between clenched teeth. “And Francesca, with that horrible girl?” Kimberly empathized but reasoned that it was no good starting a fight on the first day of Year 11. “It’s okay, you don’t want to get into trouble do you?” Jocelyn recognized reason in her words. “True that, but don’t worry, I’ll get her back sometime.” As if on cue, the school bell ran and the two girls ran off to their first class. © 2013 Amy TaoAuthor's Note
