Thoughts on Being a Woman

Thoughts on Being a Woman

A Poem by Jessie

So why should I be the one

Whose body needs to change
To impress the opposite sex?

My breasts can still
Turn fat into milk for babies
No matter how saggy they are.

My belly can still carry
A developing baby inside it
No matter how many inches of it
Hang over the edge of my jeans.

So,
I don't always shave my legs and,
My feet are usually dirty and,
I brush my hair probably every other day or so...

But,
My body is biologically beautiful;
It does all the things
I want it to do
And all the things
It needs to do.

If I change the way my body looks,
I will do it simply because I want to,
And for no other reason.

My beauty is found
Not in a mirror,
Or in one's eye,
But in my very existence,
Because the fire in my heart
Is what you should notice first.

The last two lines are great! This poem could be better. I mean, this can be much much better just by adding a few lines which can create a spark. Something is amiss. But still, nice work!
