Love is Patient

Love is Patient

A Poem by Jessie

It came to my attention a long time ago,
That I am not a very patient person,
And I never have been.

However, according that silly little holy book
Love is patient.
And I must admit,
That those words are very true.

So,
I have decided,
From this day forward,
I will practice being patient with you.
All those silly little things you do
That sometimes annoy me,
I will brush off like ashes on the table
From a cigarette,
And let them fall out of sight
And out of mind.

This is only because
As my
Boyfriend, my
Dearest friend, my
Lover, and my (hopefully)
Future husband,
I want to give you the privilege
Of only having to deal with my complaining
About the big things you do.

And though you may tell me,
That you want to change those silly habits
To make me smile,
You must understand two very important things:

1,
I fell in love with you the way you were
When I fell in love with you.
(Which means, whether or not you change,
I will still love you.)

and 2,
If you change those small things about yourself,
Then I'm sure I'll find something new
To complain about
(Because that's just how I am,
And I really like complaining).

So, just know
That to me, you are special enough
That I will hold in my nitpicking about
Your silly habits that I don't like when I'm with you
And let them out on someone else
When I'm not.
