Talking to Letters

Talking to Letters

A Poem by Jessie

One day I was reading a book,

When some letters spoke to me.

They invited me to explore their
Wonderful world of words--
And,
Really,
How could I refuse?!

I didn't really fit in their world,
Because,
As you may well know,
I am  a three-dimensional object,
And I don't exactly fit on a page.

But nonetheless, the letters let me explore
The idea of being a two-dimensional letter,
With only a name and a few sounds--
"But that's where you're wrong Missus,"
Said a letter M, who also turned out to be a male.

"We really aren't much different from you," he said,
"We are letters as individuals,
We are families when we are words,
We are nations when we are paragraphs,
And we are an entire universe in a book.

"We were never asked which words we want to be in,
We never chose which book to printed into.

"But most importantly,
We effect your world,
And you effect ours,"
he told me.

He nodded his serif,
And wished me a good day,
While I sat and tried to figure out,
What on earth  that was all about.
