142. Rotor Blade Babe

142. Rotor Blade Babe

A Poem by Alex Moondragon

 She looked at me intently

             with her soft, warm, brown eyes;

We smiled mutually.

The rotor blade churned wind

played her hair across her forehead;

The starboard green light illuminated her face

While my heart desperately fought

to make sense of the rising emotions.

She looked at me as if to say:

‘The reason is you.’

As the lights of the city passed underway

I longed to be with her; but

In some strange way I already was.

If only I could hear her thoughts

Through the silence of the screaming blades.

I wish I could hear her say

‘I don’t want to lose you,’

‘Stay close to me’

I’m alive today, the reason is you.’

How I longed for slow motion time

to stretch out that look!

I envied the wind that played with her hair,

How I longed to touch her face

as lightly as that gentle green light,

How I longed to hold her gaze for hours,

and kiss her lips with flowers.

Author's Note

Alex Moondragon
'My' rotor blade babe committed suicide on Monday 19 June 1995.
She couldn't live without her ex-boyfriend. I was absolutely gutted when I heard the news.
I often wonder if we had become friends that night when we flew together, would it have changed the way things turned out?
