44. Awake My Love

44. Awake My Love

A Poem by Alex Moondragon

i.

Awake my love, beside me lay,

  Soon the sun will rise,

What better way to start the day

Than to see first light in your eyes.

            ii.

Sweet in slumber you are sprawled

  Between the garments of night;

Soft is your skin, passive and warm,

To touch and kiss with delight.

            iii

As I stir, your prospecting hands

Do seek and find their prize,

You hug me dear and kiss me near

Even ‘fore you chance to open your eyes.

iv.

Then you stretch your languid form

  And breathe a breathless sigh,

While gently recedes the duvet of dawn

Her inky black from the day now nigh.

            v.

Lashes flutter off the silk of night,

Your eyes now hold me fast in gaze,

Across your lips melts a smile so bright:

My heart with joy is set ablaze.

            vi.

So sweet it is to sever

The night from every morn’,

I would I could forever

Awake with you at dawn!
