ONCE UPON AN ENCHANTED WORLD

ONCE UPON AN ENCHANTED WORLD

A Poem by Moomal Ahmed
"

COMEDY, i guess

"
Once upon an enchanted world,
a princess encountered a frog.
As good a kiss as she could give,
she gave: but the frog was a frog.
Hither and thither she skipped
a prince being the source of search,
nothing she did at all behold
except the spiteful green frog

Once upon an enchanted world,
did a prince look for a maiden.
One who had slept a thousand years
was searched in the woods by him,
so that he could bestow a kiss
and grant her revival from the swoon.
Never he found any such princess
instead was detained in a mental asylum.

Once upon an enchanted world,
lived an old haggard lady
who called to her mirror everyday
asking for the fairest of all
but never in a hundred years
did she listen to a speaking mirror
but she did, in uncontrollable fury,
break the mirror, her husband's gift.

Once upon an enchanted world
traveled a young, fair woman
who wore heels on just a foot
and called herself Cinderella.
She said she was looking
 for a handsome young prince
who would fetch her other shoe
her foot was growing blisters

Once upon an enchanted world
Lived honest, old Jack
who had always yearned for a sister, Jill
to travel up the hill.
His pail of water, forever empty,
induced him to fill it up
to name his teddy bear Jill
and travel up the hill
