Byzantium

Byzantium

Byzantium

We have such great tasks ahead of us.

In battle, the charge of horsemen

at night in fitful dreams

we seek the abundant rain

O such great tasks.

For we are not glutted like beasts

but raise our faces to heaven

to receive the abundant rain.

Who is speaking? you ask.

You may well ask.

But it is enough for you to know

the law is not made but lives within us

in our consent

the eyes with which we see

faith not left behind.

(chorus: not left behind)

In the name of Byzantium

the memory of Byzantium

we call on eminent princes

to come with the speed of sailing ships

that wind cannot hold back

that the bridge not fall

the past remain.

For we are nobler than we know.

(sustained applause)
