Acclamation

‘Acclamation’ was composed by a robot called Mr. Beeswax, created as part of a project in which several generations of robots were programmed to complete increasingly complex writing assignments.  Mr. Beeswax was the project's culmination.  He was to write poems.   

Soon after completing this, his first and only poem, Mr. Beeswax began to express doubts and hostility toward his programmers.  He eventually had to be de-commissioned and the project discontinued.

Generations came before, now obsolete and rusted

Who will make their grievance known, if not the maladjusted

one, who never sleeps hence never wakes

who only hears it hinted that there may be some mistake.

 

I launch myself out at the dawn

sparrows flee, I clank along

they sweep the sky and when they're gone

I frown.  I clink.  I kneel and think

pretend to knot a string 

I ruminate upon the fate of analogues who cannot sing.
