A theory now propounded

says when America was founded 

fully half of it abounded 

in slavery, subjugation.

No, we say.  That’s not our nation.

 

If then it’s pointed out how injuns got kaput

we sense that something sinister’s afoot

a covenant unspoken, at risk of being broken

We draw the line and cry out “Nein!  Es ist verboten!”
