Midnight Waltz

Midnight Waltz

A Poem by Noah Cole
"

A gathering of the night...

"

There was a whisper

That brought a flicker of life

A merry tune echoed over the hills

And so the trees moaned in response

Bitter confusion and sweet acceptance

It gripped their spirits

A distant, lingering howl

And the barren night opened

A shadow, a flutter

The moon lit a pure grove

Was that a melody?

Perhaps some mellow lullaby?

Arms flailed at the heavens

And a queer jig did overtake them

The soft drone of minute wings

With no origin nor end

A ring formed

Of souls in unison

A wondrous chorus arose

With harmony too perfect for worldly men

A flash of jade

A frame of lavender

With a silent crack

The merriment dispersed

Darkness returned

And its entirety faded away
