The Day

The Day

A Poem by Noah Cole
"

Enlightenment...

"
I thought I understood life,
I had seen the oceans,
I had basked in the sun’s rays,
Love had touched me more than once,
And I thought I had understood freedom,
Knowing that you can’t be caged,
Not by yourself or anyone else.
Not only had I seen the mountains,
But I had been to the rivers,
I had bathed in the streams of Mother Nature.
But then I saw Death,
I saw the decay,
I felt the heartbreak of lost hope,
And I saw nations fall.
I never knew hurt like this,
To feel like there was nothing left,
To know you were nothing,
Never had I been so humbled,
Not once had I felt so insignificant,
Until that day,
And it was a day to remember,
The day my life changed.

Though this is a free verse poem I found three distinct phases in it: The Illusion (From "I thought" to "Mother Nature") The Realization( From "But then" to "so insignificant") and finally The Enlightenment (From "Until that" to "Life changed"). Very impressive poem. The review may seem complex and irrelevant but couldn't help it. Good work!
