The Smell of Flowers

The Smell of Flowers

A Poem by Noah Cole
"

An intoxicating bouquet...

"

Cleave your mind in two,

Give me your red shoe,

Let your pencil be your master,

Maybe then you'll write faster,

Run until the end of days,

Run right into that purple haze,

There is no love,

Sweet pink canaries and cannabis,

An intoxicating bouquet,

Arrive in time to catch the late show,

But tonight there's no way.

Let the world spin,

Remove your recycling bin,

You can bend or you can break,

Or your life could be fake,

Erase away your memories,

Run around breaking knees,

There is no life,

Smell the flowers in the air,

An intoxicating bouquet,

I can't remember a thing,

But tonight there's no way.

Kill with words of your own,

Blind them down to the bone,

Only use your weapon of choice,

Just don't make a single voice,

I'll just say farewell to you,

And a gentle, silent adieu.

There is no luck,

Picking locks and piercing eyes,

An intoxicating bouquet,

You know exactly what to do,

But tonight there's no way.

Author's Note

Noah Cole
(Note from Feb 2012): Haha, this was a great poem, another of my mid-high school classics. I don't remember why I wanted to write this, or how I got the idea, or even what my idea originally was. I do know that the original vision, whatever it was, for this was far from what came out of it. There isn't much to say, except that I have heard some interesting interpretations on it (most of which involve drugs), and that everytime I read it, it seems to get better and better. What do you think about it? I at least want anyone who reads it to laugh, or at least appreciate the lightheartedness of it. I appreciate any and all thoughts: critiques, suggestions, and analyses. Thanks :)
