Eyes wide open

My eyes opened wide, not blinking, not tearing.

My eyes opened wide, not thinking, just staring.

Staring into the depth of the darkness,

staring into the depth of my soul.

 

My fingers spread across the decaying leaves.

Leaves made from promises and trust.

The palm of my hands feeling the static.

Feeling the empty definitions.

 

I feel a numbing pain against my chest.

It feels like the veins from the front is pulling towards my back.

It sends shivers and an array of white noise across my skin.

 

This intense discomfort settles at the pit of my stomach.

An agonizing pain,

like my heart dropped inside of it and started beating.

 

It feels like thorns and ivy has wrapped itself around my heart.

I feel myself turning into an empty casket.

Not a single soul buried with it,

but pulled deeper and deeper into the earth.

 

I feel betrayed.
