Snippet 1A Chapter by Sophie Ann RussellChapter 1 - The Lake House - sneak preview (full book available on Amazon - kindle and paperback)
He looked around at his surroundings " the trees in front and the sky above, its inky blackness perturbed by patches of hazy cloud and an array of stars dotted about; they were all a blur through his eyes.
There was little wind in the area. Greg felt compelled to stand up and walk across the grass up to the edge of the road, on the opposite side of which was the forest that people from the village, for whatever reason, never went into. However, there was something different about that night; this time, the forest seemed more inviting to Greg, though he didn’t exactly know why ... All his life he’d never once thought about entering that forest, the idea hadn’t even crossed his mind. It was now, when he noticed it " like a sudden window had opened and he could see right before him a place that was inaccessible before " that he felt like his body was being jerked forward from within, and a little voice inside his mind was saying, persistently, ‘Go for it. Nothing’s stopping you. It’s allowed,’ and being drunk ... he did what he was told. He walked across the road, stopped right in front of the forest, feet away from the closest tree. He could hear a distant rumble from inside, the rustling of leaves, and the snap of some twigs. All of a sudden a breeze blew past Greg from behind him and, almost as if it was inviting him in, it carried him forwards " and he was engulfed by the trees. © 2014 Sophie Ann Russell |
