A Poem by Monners

Drum beats

Kick, Skip

Melody in your head

Takes you back to summer days

Where cherries were 24-7

And the sprinkler could occupy you for hours

And the playground down the street

was better than any theme park...

And the ball in the front yard

was better than any video game could be.

I want you to understand me,

My roots.

To go back with me and stare at the sky

The clouds make magnificent shapes

I'll show you

A castle, a spaceship, a zebra

Magic no magician could create

You're the voice constantly in my head

Reminder that I need you

To find you

And see my soul in your eyes

My heart in your hands

Cliche, but true

You are my past, present, and future

My best friend

So come with me

Take my hand

And see my world.

our favorite thing as kids was to play on a fallen tree in a field by our house - that tree was so many things to us: a mighty dragon, a pirate ship, a castle. We'd spend hours there - of course, such imaginative play has been lost to the technological age in which we live I think - thanks for this walk down memory lane. nicely done.

I really like the imagery in this. It seems sort of melancholy and nostalgic but the ending tells me that there is more to the story. 9/10 would read again

I love this, memories of what we did , when and where, to shape us. I think this has good rhythm and flow, until the last line. I would leave that off altogether. I think it detracts from your poem of great worth. Barbara

it makes me feel sad and sentimental. i miss the innocent days of youth, when nothing really mattered; you just lived your life a moment at a time and didn't worry about the future. great job.
