Drumbeats of War

Drumbeats of War

A Poem by MomzillaNC

The orotund drumbeats of war
pounding, pounding sonorously
beating, beating, drumming
drumming a stentorian drone
drowning out our heartbeat

Fools pound the drums
calling our children to war
while old men's tears fall
begging warmongers to hear
the gentle voice of peace

Drumming, drumming, beating
fools with puffed up self-import
will send our children to war
against other nations' children
drowning out voices of peace

powerfully said and presented Mom :( i dare say their are precious few who would say that war is a good thing ... bringing nothing but sorrow and destruction in answer to threat ... i imagine my small prayers and intent for true peace for all are joined by many more ... i'm too old to be called up .. and already served .. poorly ... but served ... i wonder if one put global wars on a timeline if there ever is a time when there are none :( bold font and color choice ... i knew instantly from just that ...that the message would be the same .. title itself impacted me to read .. and that pic is stunning in its pain and horror ... one day we will share our peace, Momzilla ... perhaps

Love the image MOM great great painting:) No soldier wishes for war and no officer worth his spit does as well. Politicians that's another matter entirely, and a very few politicians these days are veterans it was always a silent reaffirmation to have a war veteran in political power for you knew that they are the ones who truly grasp the gravity of war and to make choices and take pains to avoid conflict the war hawks are always the ones who never served and only feel a gravity to serve to better themselves and their interests:( ah but i'm preaching to the choir dear Momzilla poignant writing here:) love the flow and statement!

LOL you couldn't of said it better
The drums of war...with your unique word choice you make them sound so deeply ominous and such harbingers of death and destruction. I also appreciate the poignant message underlying this finely written poem - Its never those who initiate the war who lose their lives. And peace...it's voice is so gentle...it hardly stands a chance.

Thank you. I hope those drumbeats may be silenced, and that peace will reign.
