America is dying because of fear. Fear of doing something about the powers that be, fear of what powers that be are doing to us. We are America, all of us from many lands, many cultures, seeking the same thing; peace, life, safety, unity and love. Peace comes with understanding and love. Life continues with peace and love. Safety happens with unity and unity happens when loved. We have none of that today. Peace is not mass shootings, riots, racism, ridicule and sarcasm, HATRED. Life isn't life when every breath is breathed with worry, fear and sorrow. Safety is threatened with ignorance and misuse of power. Unity is destroyed when a nation built of multiple races no longer see eye to eye. When differences grow and fear takes over, love becomes only a word not understood by those who surrender to the powers that be. I fear for our people, our country for which Liberty stands. Her light was meant to signify a free people with open arms to those who need us, not without protection and security of course, but to render aid to those deserving. It is what this country was once made of. Liberty has always been the Lighthouse to the world. She looks out over the seas with the land she protects behind her. The light fades now----as a warning to us all. She is not afraid but warns against those who threaten her. When darkness comes, the dimness of her light will be meant for only us; the ones who have remained true to her. We'll still see you coming. Rather or not she welcomes you is up to you. Fear her, fear Liberty.

This is what I heard in my head as I listened. Riveting, this is. Made me think.

I really should have gone into a dark room to get the proper essence of your poem.
You really set the scene and took the listener with you.
Liberty appears to have got lost in America.

I've never been to the Blue Ridge in Virginia. Grandfather's Mountain and Asheville are amazing!
I love it. Very magical. I listened twice. I agree with Jacob.

wow, you have a perfect voice for poetry...such a compelling write to begin with but recited aloud...even stronger, as you put so much feeling into the reading...
