Words To Color The Soul

Words To Color The Soul

A Poem by MomzillaNC

Life… so pondering and colorless
Grey and dusty as the elephant
Trammeling the self… drab, lumbering
Until… what worlds are these?
Twixt the pages of a book
The elephant will fly
In imagination, rainbow hued
In the mind’s eye, infinite vistas
Worlds painted with words
Words to color the soul

I think of Hemingway's "Hills like White Elephants" and how the girl would say that and the man would respond like she said something really profound.
And when there is that elephant in the room most times it is considered a bad thing...a burden...but reading a book for me has always been a wonderful escape----between those pages.
I love this poem, MomZ...it spoke to me on several levels i can relate to.

I read your profile & the thing I loved most was your comment about great writers READ! Then I read this poem right after! The world of reading is powerful & magic & illuminating, which you've shown so brightly with your original imagery (elephant lumbering is an awesome idea!) Fondly, Margie

Words painted with colors do color the soul. They make life vibrant and come to life. Your poem brings that into great perspective.
