These are awesome! "Dreams is incredible for a Ten Year Old and "Hey Diddle Diddle" is nostalgic with a nice little twist in the juice, but I really love "Humpty Frumpty" because the end made my tummy role when I laughed. "So nyah, nyah, nyah! SPLAT!" Oh good lord, that's great!

Oh what a great way to share creativity here! And at a moment when we are so open to receive the influences from the external world, The fluidity of imagination , inspiration and intuition are astounding.
If you could convey to your Son that my personal favorite is certainly dreams which speak to me. Tell him please that I wish I would have wrote it just like that. This is ceratinly a very good way to treasure and promote creativity as a way to express oneself. My daughter "suffers" at times and she is a painter at heart but she also writes. What a heart warming moment this.

I'd interject song into stories like "Home for a Bunny." I read everything to him when he was a baby -- even junk mail! :D He learned to read on my grandfather's knee; he'd sit on Jack's (my grandfather) knee while he read the newspaper. Jack read the banner and all the headlines to him by pointing to each word. One day, Jack opened the paper and my son just pointed to a headline and read it. He was three years old.

When mine was an infant, I'd keep a running dialogue when I was taking care of him, telling him what I was doing and why. The tone is important. The contact, skin to skin matters. Touch them, hold them, read to them, sing to them. Babies don't even care if you sing well. I have a sister who can't carry a tune! But her baby loved for her to sing to him. They crave your voice, your snuggles, your time, and your discipline.

My son already has a personal library of well over 100 books!
I don't know if a mother can say this but this is much better than the poem my four year old wrote, I don't know if he's going to get into writing at all, although I enjoyed hearing what he had to say and learned more about his day at school than I would have otherwise

He wrote "Dreams" recently and was trying to deliberately write poem. The other two, he was just playing with the songs I used to sing to him all the time. He loved poetry children's books. "Home for a Bunny," "The Napping House," "Shout It," etc. were always among his favorites.
Happily, I seem to have a talent for delivery when reading children's stories. I used to read to his class and was a huge favorite. His friends in the neighborhood used to gather on my front porch for me to read to them as well. They all love the different voices, the moments of unexpected song, and the role-playing when I read to them. I actually miss it. They've all gotten to big for their britches now! LOL
I guess my son's life has been filled with poetry and music since he was in the womb (yes, I sang to my son when he was in the womb -- I'm THAT kind of mom :D).

When my mom was having kids, they thought you had to leave them crying and you could hold a baby too much. Current thinking is that held babies are healthier babies and that they develop stronger in every way. Certainly mine has. Y'know, when my mom had kids, they actually thought formula was better than breast milk!
Parents have always done what they believed to be the best at the time.

But, then, he's been a hand-kissin' charmer all his life! Momzilla, you are so proud, I'm certain, as I would be of him. When I began writing recently, was so excited to find an assignment for poetry in Hane's shorts. Anyway, he wouldn't let me see what he wrote; will be 14 this week. You have that wonderful age of 10, but it does keep getting better! We started over with him. Two daughters' - 32 & 30. And then came the son....I love them so much!! Oh my God, I loved the writing!!! I laughed out loud; didn't know it was your son then. Thank you. I really enjoyed it. Wow, let me shut my mouth.
