Raining Autumn Fall

Raining Autumn Fall

A Poem by MomzillaNC
"

My answer to Realmwriter's seasonal challenge

"

Nothing makes me long for the comfortable coolness of Autumn like the distortion of the shimmery horizon of summer’s oppressive heat haze, wilting flora and fauna alike. Autumn… she is a season throwing open her arms… offering her cool comfort after the unrelenting, punishing summer heat. She is a season of abundance, bestowing a harvest of goodness. Autumn gifts us our favorite things… apples and cider, pumpkin spice and pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes and zucchini, pomegranates and pears, grapes and vino, cranberries and cherries… the list goes on. In Autumn’s embrace we gather together to celebrate her abundance with feasting and revelry.

Enjoy the sounds of Autumn's bounty in my poem,

Raining Autumn Fall

Crunch, schlackle-khrackle, squish…

Phschluppa-khrieck-schlewmp and snap…

Through the late November wood…

Splinter, crackle, scrunch and smatter…

Flurry scurry and fly about.

Flutter and rustle, schlicha-klecha…

By the wet North Wind blown,

Bustling hither and thither and yon…

Falling, falling for Autumn down…

Brown frosted veins of former verdancy…

Crushing delicate detritus beneath

Footfalls under bare boned skeletal trees.

Whoosh and whish and rrurr…

Mechanized winds blow and push,

Pile high the last of Autumn’s fall.

Leap and fly, and land as they scatter!

Crinkle, crumble, crushed dead on the ground…

Rake them up and let's fly again,

To lie beneath as they flutter down

Reveling in the raining Autumn fall.

This is beautiful! The 'sounds' really put forth some great imagery. You have to use your imagination a little bit for this one... as with much poetry... But that is good! I really felt like I was walking through the woods on a gloomy November day, the leaves crunching under my feet. I loved it. Great job.

Thank you.
Wow, fantastic imagery. That font does go well with the poem, too. I love the fall, especially how it sounds and smells outside. This is very good. (:

Thank you.
The onomatopoeia is spectacular in this poem! I remember the leaves falling from the trees this time of year when I lived in New Jersey. It was great fun to romp in them when I was a young girl, but not so much fun to rake them and put them in bags for the trash truck to pick up! :) I enjoyed your words. Lydi**

Thanks so much. I'm glad you got the playfulness and enjoyed the word mangling!
From the font to the wonderful phonetic descriptors, this is a wonderful seasonal poem.

Thank so much, KL
this works on several levels...the visuals with the font...the use of sound....

and on a human level...autumn, we lose our leaves, go into hibernation, die a slow death...but then in spring we are reborn...and those leaves have already been raked up...so those tumultuous times, feelings etc...fall from us but then get cleaned up for the rebirth...
i was reading this and thinking of how charles shultz in Peanuts...always showed that sound of jumping into the pile of leaves..."ker-leaf"---

you really warmed me up in this poem...brought me back a few weeks...it is plain cold and ugly here now.

You're welcome. :)
What a refreshing poem! You really embraced the playful nature of leaves, interpreting their fall as a chance to be free! There is still a smile on my face as I type this review--this is a very sweet poem!

That font definitely brought out the feel! Very fun read! Brilliant execution.. loved it.. Though I found it a bit weird at the beginning and wondered if I was reading English :)
But, hey! looks like leaves speak a musical tongue :)

True words!
The lines so vivid with imagery, I could feel the leaves crush under my feet as I walked towards Autumn in my induced dream. The words are bright, the words are reanimating.. I felt the touch of autumn during this winter night.

Thank you.
I have as much praise for this as I did for the first of this challenge I set forth. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this piece. Where the first one I read laments on the leafs fall as if heartbreak is immanent, you rejoice and almost sing about the fall of leaves as if a child playing in them. I am brought to my youth when I did just that and I love the lines the harken to it. WONDERFUL piece Zilla. Just love it. Thank you for sharing.
