It's Not An Emotion

It's Not An Emotion

A Poem by MomzillaNC
"

What is Love?

"

It’s not an emotion…

just a feeling of the hour…

Is it our privilege?

Is this why our souls cower

in the dark all alone

in absence of its light?

We are all lost without

this word’s four letter might.

Life seems dim and lonely.

Lost, it feels most like a curse.

Crushed by low betrayal…

Sentiment born in a hearse…

But… what might we be

when we turn from the cold?

What might be our new fate

if our path may be so bold?

Between two lonely hearts…

a bond forged in loyalty…

a gift to birth our hope…

we find strength in honesty.

In it’s throes we revel…

an assured companion ours.

The heart of warmth and light

On our future dream flowers

This pledge is an embrace

all the gift that is True Love

Love’s not an emotion

It’s much more than we dreamed of

Love is more than passion…

always more than honest…

Love’s not an emotion.

My heart, Love is a promise.

An interesting muse. Is there really any such thing as love, or is it a chemical reaction in the brain, a physical response to the need to procreate. Strange that love can fade so easily once it has served its purpose, at least that heartfelt longing type of love that makes us obsessive about the partner. With age, love fades into affection, even indifference.
In line three instead of 'our' privilege, perhaps it should read 'a' privilege. But interesting write.

Thank you.
sweet, gentle strokes sweep down the page in gentle caress that flows from your pen into our hearts.. the ending was beautifully done.. I like the teasing repetition at the end.. font is lovely and adds to the elegant, graceful tone.. only critique is that some of the rhymes felt a little forced.. but overall this is lovely... last line is my favorite..

Thanks so much.
It is charm
It is wit
It the disguise of fate

Sacrifice in the face of selfishness
Pleasure in the face of pain
Promise in the face of disdain

It is effortless recognition
It is wonderful contrition
It is unbridled volition

A no strings binding contract
An answer to a question
A revelation of selflessness

It is magnified grace
It is the purity of our race
It is limitless perfection in this mournful, sorrowful place

Love is this: pure, unadulterated, perfect bliss.

And to answer your question, I will submit this piece. And I must say that your piece is as powerful an answer as the question set forth. Your message speaks volumes and in so doing quells the hardened spirit. Wonderfully said.

I have just posted a challenge in the Poetry Challenge group.
Oh my Lord, Momzilla, you are a fantastic writer!!! I just submitted something about death; was reading this and thinking - I've got to erase MINE - this is like you picked me up like the most beautiful butterfly and took me away up high. What imagery. Blew me away. I told one writer, I wished I had a spinkle of their talent, seemed like I was being selfish asking for a sprinkle, but with you, I need to think of a smaller word, for your talent is immense.
