I AM the Journey

Every choice is a gateway…

a gateway to a new Me. 

Sometimes, the gate opens 

on a dark and haunted wood 

Where I have to fight…

fight my way back to the light.

I choose to fight…

to run towards that shining path.

I choose to run…

and to leave the shadows behind.

And in the choosing…

I become the journey.

The journey defines me

and rewards me with inspiration.

I choose where I will go

and who will travel upon my paths.

I pass through that gateway and

The new Me defines the journey.

Be your own journey…

This was very short, but very impressive in terms of its inspirational quality and its literary goodness both. I only regret its shortness, for both the vocabulary and message were excellent and worthy of note to any who might read this review. I fear that I have little to say on here that was not already spoken by this piece, but that I am impressed with the author's work in this great poem.

I would recommend this piece to ANY aspiring poet, ANY writer of his trade or just anyone looking for a good (albeit VERY short) read. It's not often that I come across such simple, yet effective, works!

Walking our "talk" - daily - has a tendency to define us as real. Understanding that our perceptions are just that - perceptions... while maintaining humanity and compassion for others and honesty within our self - are a good basis to share our ways.

I agree. And, I believe we must surround ourselves with people who make us want to be better human beings. I believe that is where God is found… in the striving to be better, to be Christ-like. We may fail, but we cannot be wrong when we lift up and love others. God doesn't care about our acquisition of wealth or power; He cares about our right-relationship with Him and our serving Him through compassion, empathy, and humanity toward others.

So much of the world seems trapped… lost in their dogma. But, God isn't in their dogma. God isn't religion. Religion is man's attempts to define the indefinable… to limit the omnipotent… to confine the omnipresent. Faith, Hope, Charity, and Love… God is in these. He is Grace and Mercy. He will never be found in pursuit of greed or power. And, He will never be found in a dogma.

It's hard sometimes, especially when we make the journey alone. But, when we have good friends and devoted loved ones, the journey, while not easier, is always rewarding and you have someone to help you clear the obstacles. The best we can do is try to surround ourselves with people who make us want to be better people ourselves.

True. I guess I have to be thankful that my parents will always have my back and must head on with my journey no matter what. Having people who can support you does make a difference.

I didn't have that from my parents. Things were… well… not good. My gran tried, but I was still in my parents' house. Things turned around for me when I went off to college and met my best friends -- the angel of my life. She helped me find my way through that gateway.

Help takes different forms and relations I guess. In a situation contrasting yours, I had bad experiences with friends. I have a few good ones through childhood but still- quite a few left sour experiences.

Oh, I had bad experiences with "friends" as well. But, I don't think of them as lost friends. I know what true friendship is. I know what true love is. And joy. Having found those things, I simply cannot mourn the loss of those other facsimiles.

I let go of them as well. I have yet to gain such experiences in the journey to come.
