Winter

Winter

A Poem by MomzillaNC

Winter

Bleak September rain

washes away the end of Summer…

Damp, Barber winds bluster and

     carry away warm Summer breezes…

The hastening dance of days

runs ever shorter in fall of Autumn color

Brittle, dry, crackling leaves

     fly, dance, shutter, and fall…

Fragile, crumbling refuse

     of warmer, brighter days.

Cold winds blow,

     snaking round every corner…

Swirling, seeping, sneaking
into every chilly nook and bower…

Breathing frigid fractals

     ‘pon the frosted windowpane…

Slithering, plundering warmth

     and weak, dreary daylight…

From hyperboreal frozen,

     merciless, snowbound nights.

Winds howl and souls cower

‘neath the crawling, creeping glacial rictus…

Buried in the icy grip

     of desolate, frozen Winter.

Thanks. The alliteration was entirely unintentional and I did think about eliminating. But, the word.. read more

I'm no fan of the cold myself. I much prefer the light garments required in the summer to the bulk of heavy laden coats and thick under-raiment so clogging dexterity one cannot move. You've captured well the feeling of winter moving in slowly, cloying, deliberate. Very nicely done.

I love your perspective of winter.

"snaking round every corner…
Swirling, seeping, sneaking
into every chilly nook and bower…"

Describes winter perfectly! Good job.

I felt all the seasons flicker in front of my eyes, like on a reel, before it comes to stock-still on winter. Bringing with it, the cold winds. A very alluring read Momzi! Feels as swift and silent as the winter itself!!

Momzilla, almost felt like, I was living in, Ottawa, again, as an university student. Those were bitter winters, nothing could prepare me, from the southern Ontario ones. I hated those winters, with a passion. The kicker is, my birthday falls, in the winter. Sigh.

Brrrrrrr!! Sounds like the snow storm in
1994 that hit Alabama I was 15teen I moved to Alabama
when I was 12years old we were snowed in was a lovely home
with wood fireplace mom was great at keeping us feed and we had candles
and oil lamps I loved it was fun.

I remember playing out side and having a snowball
fight LOL in our front yard!

always had food and we were prepared
for the weather :) always good to be stalked up
so if it dangerous to go out in that weather might get hurt
I understand we had many snowy days in Iowa I never stayed out too
long but seemly the cold didn't phase me then
I was used to it I am still some now but it feels
different In Northern Georgia so took me a long time to get used
to Georgia's weather and the Sinus Allergy Seasons they are even
worst over here.

Thank you for sharing blessings. Benita
