A Portrait of My Boy

Higgledy-piggledy… greet the new day…

Run on… run on… any… any which way…

Race around at breakneck speeds…

The madcap adventurer never heeds.

Worried warnings oft shouted at his head…

Loud and long ’til " Oi! " mother’s face is red!

Happy-go-lucky, he races headlong…

All willy-nilly and devil-may-care…

Lickety-split, he’s out on a limb…

’Til he’ll crash and tumble in th’old mud puddle!

All topsy-turvey… his butt in the air…

With a squelching giggle and grunt, he crows,

“That was so AWESOME!! Let’s do it again!

Just loved it!! The speed and bounce of the rhythms and rhyming echoed the excitement of the child's enthusiasm plus the "panic" of Ma. I've been there, done that, and even bought the T shirt. Now my "kids" are learning the hard way. Great fun.

Thank you. He was around five or six in that picture. But, he always was an absolutely, stunningly beautiful child. His grandmother paid for him to be in a beautiful baby contest -- he won. He has his father's ebony eyes.

My mom has the trophy and his medal from the one pageant on her mantle. I don't deny the monetary prizes (scholarships), if he'd won at regionals, even for just 4th place, would have been helpful.

Why is it that the good choices always require something painful, like walking away from a pile of cash?

Oh! He's such an amazing kid! So frustrating! So brilliant! So annoying! So sweet and lovable! So stinky! So affectionate! He's this non-stop, constantly chattering, mobile wall of pure potentiality!
