A Poem by RFDIII
"

A macabre tale of what may lay in wait for those who dare pilfer a grave.

"

Cobble steps
face
sloping down
the
enclave
of a grave.

Every step portending
death; Dormant
until refrained.

Something shimmers, catching light,
reflecting all once lost.
To tarry long
within it’s sight
is far too great a cost.

Begin descent.
Burn your flame.
See all is to see.
Bloodied walls
and
earthen halls
and
something still agleam.

Near bottom lays a crooked mouth
soaked in damp perspiration.
Mist creeps out,
whispers a shout -
a curse upon all nations.

Do dare step in and find yourself
the source of all this shimmer?
You may just find forgotten wealth…
or just stepped in for dinner.

Wow! Unholy terror lurks within this poem. Good grief, I seldom shiver upon reading a poem but you've given me goose bumps! Glad it is broad daylight as I read this once again trying to see how you got my heart to pounding in fright. Excellent write!

Thank you, I'm veritably proud to hear that it is suitably macabre -- It's always hard to tell if so.. read more
