A Poem by Molly Cara

I’ve been told that the only way out

Is through

So I’m trying to share the space

With my flaws and my mistakes

And there’s not much room for me

But I’m small enough

To make this work

See, I’d rather get this right the second time than get it perfect

The first

I want to be like these violets that cascade

Through the lawns assuming their place in summer

With a royal glory

Before yielding to the green

When their season is up

I’m trying to share the space

With my flaws and my mistakes

So far what I’ve learned is:

I’ve never been afraid of heights except that I

Might jump

Love is interchangeable pronouns

The only way out is

Through
