Proud to Be Pro-life

Proud to Be Pro-life

A Poem by Molly Cara

Years ago the men in power demanded that we drop our first-born sons into the Nile

With nothing but a basket, a goodbye, and, good luck.

With our arms interlaced we saw them off and the insatiable river collected our young

Ones like it was payday long overdue like babies and baskets were currency

And we were the miserly mothers.

...

Today the men in power guard the river like the border

Forgetting that none of us wanted the river

That we were not there by choice.

Our souls were not enough now they want our bodies too

And when some of us end things unsafely the death toll doubles

You can finally say you have her, or at least have her cadaver, you are proud to be

Pro-life you say over our dead bodies.
