Prime Colors

Prime Colors

A Poem by Molly
"

This one's a bit of a riddle....

"

It’s a nice rock: blue and smooth,

Translucent if you hold it to your eye.

Turn it over in your fingers

Feel the ridges. Count them.

Don’t fall asleep.

Look at her, staring at you.

Bright and colorful, yellow as the sun,

And strangely sad.

She’s only a sunflower, and a silk one at that.

Don’t fall asleep.

It’s gaudy when it first appears, orange almost,

But ages to a respectable maroon.

It flakes when it’s dry, and peels away.

You almost forget it was there.

Don’t fall asleep

"And if you would know God be not therefore a solver of riddles.
Rather look about you and you shall see Him playing with your children.
And look into space; you shall see Him walking in the cloud, outstretching His arms in the lightning and descending in rain.
You shall see Him smiling in flowers, then rising and waving His hands in trees."

--Kahlil Gibran, "The Prophet"
