My Surroundings

My Surroundings

A Poem by Tayo
"

This write up mainly centers on a person's journey in life. It was inspired by an adage from my tribe (yoruba) which when translated in English, means "do not look at another man's watch".

"
Everywhere I look, there they are
Look out the window and there they are
Sternly staring at me like "wetin dey sup?"
"How your matter be?... Where you from come?
Na who blend you, na who born you?
In the heart of their minds i'm a weakling
I carry on painting a perfect motion picture
for my esteemed onlookers while still remaining focused on my goal
Without any notice; "Kaboom"
Captain Yeshua takes over
A light tap on the shoulder.... Did you miss me?
Yes it is I; that degenerate, unproductive Nazareth
The flashback tape plays in their minds
The connected dots now makes sense
Bruised knees.. Yes check!
Dried scaly lips..Yes check!
Low tone pitched voice.. Yes check!
Audacious moves... Yes check!
"Now it makes sense" they say...
"if we knew, we wouldn't have done xyz
Myopic minds, surface analysts...
I made my move on life's chessboard
I dare you... Make a move!
Now its checkmate... do I go for teh jugular?
Asiko eda... Oluwa ni kan l'omo
