Garden of LifeA Poem by Jayashree GhoshThe seven deadly sinsI wandered and wandered into The garden of life, In search of the unknown For which I'm alive. I met Mr. Pride Riding an Appaloosa Along with his bride. Pukereing his face "Move", he said, "What a foul smell in this place! Why the ground's not perfumed? My importance none assumed. Fie, I won't ride The gatekeeper will I chide!" Next came covetousness As if losing all consciousness He babbled the names of Gold, Silver & Diamond Secretly locked in a chest, Never to be siphoned. Sadly I moved on And saw Mrn Envy. He asked me to join him Wished for all to die, To live in the world alone And rule is the best, Fists of insults he hurled. I took leave of him And continued to wander I met Mr. Wrath With his hairs held up straight His face crimson-red As if he had a bloodbath. He looked at me With his bloodshot eyes And asked me to fight. Frightened I ran fast And collided with Sloth. With drowsy eyes he spoke, "You have done me great injury, Let me be carried from here I won't speak a word more", His yawn sounded like a roar. While dropping Mr. Sloth, I saw the gatekeeper Mr. Gluttony Sitting with plates of food He was having his Twenty-fifth meal of the day. I didn't know what to say, I wished to cross the gate When lechery stopped me. Her slender body, Made me forgetful of my quest By leaving my soul's desire at rest, I surrender to her!
