Iron Chef America

Iron Chef America

A Poem by Moflo
"

Watching Food Network while trying to write an essay has its benefits.

"
Now I glare in silence as
The man does flips across the stage;
He wears a suit, he's clearly foreign,
Overdoing facial motions,
Advertising cookware, chefs;
I recall how a younger me
Accepted this, thinking that 'Its
Just what he must do, I guess.'
While the show diverted off
Far from his childlike caters
And I forgot, we all forgot
The intro to the paper whose
Conclusion was designed to be
A tangent from the get-go.
(Where flips will lead to pan-seared clams)

-But now I sit with my mouth gaped,
Wondering if he's watching too;
And cringing with my every cringe.

Heavily inspired by a conversation I had about the role of modern television(with no offense to the Food Network) with a fellow writer on here.

This is awesome! Love it! It is funny how the escapades and exaggerations of people on television, ESPECIALLY in advertising mocks our intelligence, and yet we laugh and buy the products they sell. Children sit and watch and think that one should be so excited to own that doll, though after two weeks its laying in a corner in that same child's room. Don't even get me started on the "This is Bob" male-enhancement commercials, I can only IMAGINE what goes through a child's mind upon seeing one of those. That guy even scares me!

Anyway, children aren't the only ones who are highly pressured by modern television either, adults are just as much though we don't care to admit it, whether it be a fictional character we admire or a celebrity who's wearing a cool new pair of shoes or a new shade of nifty eyeshadow...or simply we try to emulate their behavior thinking that perhaps if we acted more like this character or someone other than myself then perhaps the same outcome of this storyline would be in my future as well...

Ok, venturing off topic and now I'm going on a tangent :)

He wears a suit, he's clearly foreign,
Overdoing facial motions,
Advertising cookware, chefs;

Overdoing the facial motions reminds me of old dubbed movies, lovely image here.

Superb work as always my dear

Most things to do with tv make one wonder .. mostly why is it on in the first place !!! Here you seem to be suggesting that the erratic goings-on are supposed to draw in the spectator and create some peculiar something but only ends up being cringe worthy. Let me know if right-ish or wrong-ish, please!
