Deus Ex Machina

Deus Ex Machina

A Poem by Moflo
"

"God out of the machine," as used commonly in Greek Tragedies. Basically, my response to all the judgment day predictions that have flooded the world, including tomorrow's.

"
The gavel's bang will be louder
Than any clap of thunder ever was,
And hordes of families hug like puzzle
Pieces, intertwined like complex shrubs.
The chorus will sing Oo's and Ah's
As His glory from a rope embarks:
A shopping cart trapezes soaring,
Lights brighter than the brightest stars.
The cogs of human left and right,
Their hearts beat faster, grow more weaker,
And Medea, for her actions, cries!
Antigone's future grows more meeker!

The good, the bad, the human life:
Some cry, some fret, some more serene,
Curse the past they cannot change,
Accept their futures like a dream.
While clocks still tick and birds still chirp,
The arena patrons rise and clap!
And elsewhere, off the stage, we sit
While horses neigh and dumb dogs nap.
The Evengel's chase us up trees,
Macduff swipes sword at Macbeth's head,
And Spring time brings its yearly bud
To trees, unaware they'll soon be dead!

So with all the human flaws exploited
And right and wrong still etched in stone,
Should not some great force apprehend
The souls who need preform atone?
The World is deviating faster!
Beliefs, used tissues, scattered trash;
Our performance needs a retribution,
An ending! One that's harsh and rash!
So judgment Day will be more tragic
Than any Greek play ever seen!
But I can't help to understand
Its us who built this DAMN Machine!

Author's Note

Moflo
Medea and Antigone are Greek Tragedies. I referenced Macbeth because I always felt that its ending, in a way, resembled a Deus Ex Machina(no one knew Macduff was born by C-section until he conveniently said so). The first stanza and half of the second describe the atmosphere of the Greek Tragedy, the arena, the chorus, the moral, etc. Oh and please don't hate me for my religious belief, or lack there of.

Maybe my review won't be a ghost this time!
I love this piece. It speaks to human nature in that everyone has that apocalypse question, and humans have had it, even long before some arrogant d****e proclaimed there was a Bible code that only HE was keen enough to interpret. This piece provides a still shot of life on Earth; I love the 2nd stanza, especially the last couple of lines--they stick out to me.
In other words, regardless of when this supposed apocalypse decides to hit Earth, life goes on until then and there is no point in fretting--it achieves nothing. I love this like I love everything you write! Very well said!

yes, how the machinations of logic and reasoning , saving graces as mankind climbed the evolutionary ladder , backlash as focus shifted from survival in nature to survival of man against self .. well done .

Freedom of belief here is what we strive to protect. From simply a poetic standpoint this is magnificent. The subtle symbolism you wield on the unwary is an art only the skillful dare practice. The first stanza took my breath away. And so all poetry should if it wants to hold me. Rapture or not, this world needs a major makeover. And I'm not so sure humans will stop being voracious and selfish long enough for us to do it ourselves. I hope someone besides ourselves is holding us accountable. It is the spark we need to get moving.

I agree with Poetic Beauty, we are the ones causing our own destruction. You have done an excellent job penning this one Mike.

This is a great poem about the end of days and that last line in this poem should make us all think. We are going to cause our own destruction if we are not careful.

Very poignant. The argument of retribution is an old one...yet here we are still messing up our home. Nice references...forming the argument and logic. Love it!
