Circumcision? What is the definition or the true meaning of being circumcised? is it simply a choice for parents at the time of birth? religious? or is there a deeper meaning? A question.
I am circumcised as are all my male children, and as were all my ancestors in that it is that which has always determined who we are ... It is our identity ... To others, it is a curse ... Great poem, and I truly enjoyed reading your heart penned to page ... We are who we are ... We are what we are ... Nothing more ... Nothing less ...
I loved observing you create this poem. It's nice to see how you formulate your works and this poem was the first for me to witness this. I love it. ~TalentedChic
A interesting topic.
"But then I fail,
As I wail...
and become circumcised."
I was told we were circumcised for the sake of cleanliness. Poor Grandsons. They circumcised them at three days old. I like how you defined the word. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Well all i can say is as i was reading this i kept thinking i am so glad i am a girl ..lol
A really well written piece that will have us all thinking about it now lol.
Todd, Now THIS is some great writing. Like any thought of circumcision (check your spelling on circumcised, unless this was intentional), mine go to the literal meaning; there are some religious connotations or hygienic considerations, but it involves the cutting of an area I would not want to be NEAR anything sharp now. But by the time I reach the end of the piece you seem to have implied an analogy to ANYTHING being cut away from a man: his pride, his soul, his dreams...literally anything he possesses...an idea? You open the door to many interpretations, which I believe is a poet's primary goal, to make the reader think. This one is going into my library favorites. Great job! take care...dan
Hi Todd. it was once explained to me the practice of circumcision became popular following the second world war, as so many soldiers suffered horrendous infections. Parents were urged to circumsise their sons at an early age to avoid abysmal pain later in life. Also, there are cultures and religions who adhere to the practice. Other than that . . .?? I don't know. I just loved this poem, kind of like getting into the head of a wee one and suffering with him!!!
