Love of Violence

Love of Violence

A Poem by modtoddinc
"

A response to violence in our society.

"

Two distinct passions opposite of the other

love my sister, kill my brother

beat me, see me, shoot me, hear me

I am dead to the love of violence.

My passions run deep, I start to weep

over my love, over the press,

heart pounding hatred, torture the sacred

I am dead to the love of violence.

Authority rising, protesters guising

shoot the King, beat the King

the promise behind a wedding ring

I am dead to the love of violence.

Everlasting crimson staining the streets

an eye for and eye stuck on repeat

argue and fight throughout the night

I am dead to the love of violence.

The latest video, whether news or gaming or the latest movie raving

beseeches our attention

of the here for to mentioned

I am dead to the love of violence.

MORE! MORE! MORE!

We will never get enough to feed our outrage

we want your blood on center stage

I am dead to the love of violence.

LESS! LESS! LESS!

We will never be humble enough to satisfy peace

to break bread together and lift up the weak

I am dead to the love of violence.

The last call is death, through age or through force

lying in our beds after running this course

remembering love through all our remorse

I am dead to the love of violence.

Todd, I love this! I share you abhorrence of all the violence in the world, and I'm afraid this country is slowly destroying itself, one murder victim at a time. I hate to sound morbid (especially when a lot of my poetry is so dark), but because I'm already 58 years old, I can say I hope I die before I get murdered. Brilliant wordplay and imagery on this one. Well done. take care...dan

A world where war is norm and death is okay. Starvation and homeless are okay when they are far away from us. A powerful poem. Left the reader with a lot to think about. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

This caught my attention and got me fully focused from the start. Good opening stanza.

This is your greatest work yet. I love it. You really do bring out the best when it comes to writing your poems. I like it.

You've made a soft clear message on violence and peace.

This is interesting.

You balance between documenting the violence you see around you in a sort of, "okay, this is what's happening," kind of journalistic sense, and also doing it in a poetic way that is divorced from that reality.

What I'm trying to say is that I get where your coming from, but you also put a new spin on it that's uniquely your own.

And so it goes: you wrote something that is unique, and instructive but not heavy handed. Well done.
