Strange how we are sometimes left wondering what it is all about and slip easily into daydreaming as an alternative. Indeed we all search for meaning but often the moment has passed and it all gets distorted so maybe if we simply 'burn' the past it will all work out. An interesting free verse poem giving the reader food for thought.

Maybe we are taking life too seriously ))))Thanks John.
Dear Ana. I did enjoyed these words.
"But, can one restore what’s lost forevermore?
That’s who we are, imbibed with dismay
Halfway to the grave, but… did I put my toaster away?"
True lines above. Old things can lay heavy on our minds but we must move forward. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

The twist at the end is nice and clever. My favorite lines would be-
"It’s difficult to overgrow
The jest
of that nonexistent meaning
That makes us eager to assign a search for."
You have a good knack of putting the line breaks at the perfect position, keeping the reader engaged! :)
we thought there was something didn't we? at one time...we were toasting to each other, with each other, but then the toast burnt....those relationships that never quite got the closure we needed...and when we get near them...there is that scent of the burning...it's still there.

The last two lines are some of the funniest things I've ever read here.
Very clever. Well done.
There is this absurdly long book by an absurdly amazing writer called "Infinite Jest" by a fellow named David Foster Wallace that I have to recommend to you. It's kind of a pain in the a*s to read but upon completion, it will have a significant impact on your life. I almost guarantee it.

Thanks, i'll check out that book you mentioned. Sounds like something i'd really like to read.
It's my favorite tragi-comedy of all time. It's absurdly long at a touch over 1,000 pages though.

Some of the end notes even have their own end notes or footnotes or whatever you want to call them. D F Wallace had a very unique style in pretty much every sense of the word.

I think i will be able to read that when i'll have a nice uninterrupted vacation somewhere, it's long overdue. I hope life for you is not as painfully boring as it often seems to be for me.
