Excess of ''maybes''

Excess of ''maybes''

A Poem by Ana B.

Breathe in through the fog of war

Blindly searching for peace,

Eagerly stepping over heads at the first call,

Climbing mountains of hoodwinked knees

To untangle from the noise of chaos

And hurry up to the beautifully arranged cell.

Could we ever see these crimes so heinous,

At which we so effortlessly excel?

Maybe darkness is just another form of light

Maybe vice versa.

And maybe I’ll start over everything tonight,

And convince myself, that I am a nice person.

Or maybe thinking is just another form of flying

And that’s why I can’t ever seem to land smoothly.

Ridiculously adept at lying

We think we know the truth, convinced of it so resolutely.

Breathe out, one more sip.

Thank you Roger, even if its a maybe :)
Some fresh perspective on existentialism I found over here and enjoyed it too. What I adore is the originality of thought and the way it is woven around expression. Bravo

Pleasure!!!
It amazes me when I think that we are able to create total opposite ideas with just one mind. Nowadays we are so focused on knowing the exact answers of all the questions that we pose, but we forget that sometimes, being unsure regarding something doesn't make us bad or stupid. It's in our nature to represent both the unshakeable confidence and the crippling uncertainty that has a tendency to take over us sometimes. We are humans, and "maybe" we shoud give ourselves a chance to allow ourselves to feel like we are.
When I saw the poem in the request list, I thought: "Maybe that's a sign, because I really wanted to read another good poem". My best "maybe". :)

this idea of perception
always in this maybe state
Are we good or bad
Wise or foolish
this is a never ending cycle of change
as we alternate and so be it
maybe our perception of it all .... does too

Love this piece
Thought provoking

Thank you very much!
You title really drew me in becuz at first I was considering "maybe" as a negative thing, like being unsure is less OK than being sure. But after I read your poem, I felt being UNSURE is the better way to be. I hate when people think they know the answers. I spent half my life feeling stupid becuz I had no sure answers . . . it was all pondering for me. The more different ways I looked at things, the less sure I felt anyone could possibly be. But still there are those who use their certainty to intimidate. Your poem is brilliant & thought-provoking. So many fresh ways to ponder things! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

It has always vexed me that humankind is capable of creating both exquisite beauty and destructive chaos in the same breath.

Perhaps you are right when you replied to emmajoy that maybe everything is much simpler than we think; but seeing the wood for the trees has always been an uphill task as far as our species is concerned; probably always will be. :))

Beccy.

PS. Loved the slant rhyme you employed here.

Thank you for the wonderful words, Ryanna!
Thinking certainly sends us here to there, up or down, according to temperament, to how we behave when happy or sad, free or cornered? Maybe, no matter the dark and light of life, of being - each of us, whoever we are, doubt selves as you appear to Do people ever mean to bend rules or speak out of turn, or elaborate or defy truth? Your finely laid poem has reallys set my thought flying, will consider and imagine, then, maybe understand what lies behind your words - in some ways, a tease of both of self and us reviewers! Perhaps!. There are riches in this post.. more than mere words.

Your last stanza really resonates with me, and makes me wonder, perhaps we're only meant to fly higher and reach out to that something somewhere which is why our thoughts have been given wings...a lot of maybes' and a whole lot of possibilities, that's what life's made up of.
Interesting write. Always a pleasure reading you, Ana. :)

"Climbing mountains of hoodwinked knees" is an excellent image. I am made to think of both nature, and of our foolish claim to influence it.
