Glint

Glint

A Poem by Ana B.

The mirror of my soul…is it in a book captured?

Maybe a song or maybe a dance…

Or maybe it’s in this art that I’ve unknowingly mastered

To steal the lingering shadows with only a glance…

Yet I cannot defy the rules of the universe…

What seems to disappear just goes to some other place

Our truth sometimes seeming nothing but the obverse

Making me lie with a straight face…

So when in a room full of light, a shadow shimmers

We can barely catch it with our glance…

That way our souls have infinite mirrors

Their reflections walking in defiance

Aching for the sky that is starless

The shadows are watching coldly from the distance

Yet even in a room full of darkness

A glint of light is enough to make the difference…

Thank you for reading James :)
This one had me flummoxed. I read it more than four times. It has a sort of dark ethereal tint to it as it vacillates between describing a world full of malevolent shadows and souls that lie and yet seems to end on a hopeful note. Some nice stanzas here.

True Ana, thank you for stopping by.
i believe it is true..."what seems to disappear really just goes to another place"---and truth goes into the shadows when we are not honest with ourselves.

You are welcome Ana.
life often imitates art - which is why it resonates so.
To attempt to master art may by extension be an attempt to control life, like scraping one's name onto a bullet so that 'the bullet with my name on it' can be safely ensconced in the owners pocket.
"Yet I cannot defy ...universe" - an admittance that mastery of art (and life) is folly?

Perhaps the soul is the tool for controlling things after all it can 'see' what we cannot. But that takes us into a whole different unknown - "a room full of darkness"

I loved immersing in this one Ana.
Thanks for sharing it with us my friend.
