Burning Dawn

Burning Dawn

A Poem by Ana B.

Once upon a time in The Eternal Night Kingdom

Lived a little girl, her beauty great, her heart simple.

She loved her Kingdom…for it was splendid

With topaz stars and sapphire skies non-ending…

Yet every now and then, her little heart was somber

For she heard a secret whisper full of hope and wonder

About a Fire-Golden circle in a faraway land

In the middle of the azure skies, whisking gold on the sand…

But she never saw the sand in gold…no such colors at her home…

Just beautiful darkness, the silver Moon as ever alone…

So she decided to go on this perilous quest

To bring a piece of this fiery paten…for she’ll never rest

Until her people will be caressed by the golden embrace.

So she looked for a clue in every corner, but didn’t find a trace…

Till an old lady, with an odd rod but gentle eyes

Has spoken:’’ Don’t be sad my little lady, but heed my advice

For you search not a faraway land, it’s this one

And the Fire-Golden circle is called The Sun.

Long time ago, that even the fairies have forgotten

Lived an Evil Queen, her power high, her heart never softened

So drunk by her greatness she was…by the abusive power

That she locked The Sun in a secretly hidden tower

For she feared her people will turn against her…

Because even the darkest darkness can be conquered…

There is no greatest power on Earth than hope

And that it was what The beautiful Sun had always evoked.

For as long as there is light in our hearts, we can fight the fear

And that is why the Evil Queen has made the hope disappear.’’

‘’And what to do now…how to free The Sun ?’’ asked the little girl

‘When a pure heart will rise, and hope will return

The Sun will come back on the sky.’’

‘’Doesn’t the Evil Queen have to die?’’

‘’Oh, The Queen has died a very long time ago, nothing lives forever

But the people lived in the dark too long, they forgot there was hope however…

The heart of a true believer, you must find it now

Then you’ll see the gold in sand…only that heart knows how.’’

Lost in thought the little girl has returned to her palace

Wondering:  how could the world know such cloudy malice?

Believing with all her heart that she will find the key

The golden light will shine for all the people to see.

Just then a tentative ray caressed her face…

There was Golden-Fire circle on the sky, shining in all its grace.

She laughed unbidden, for she knew what happened

A ray of hope is enough, even if the heart is blackened…

Now the golden embrace will follow her everywhere

Because she found  that was the color of her hair.

This one would be a sweet story to read to children at a Literary Day held at a local library. Smooth and thoughtful, readily understandable and allows room for a reader's theatrical interpretation via tone and gesture.
