Domestic LoveA Poem by Michael MercadoShe was just 16, met him in high school She wasn't looking for a boyfriend, but he appeared to be a nice dude They hit it off quickly, date after date A few months later she felt he was her soul mate
Little did she know the events that would take place Petty arguments that escalate to his hands across her face Sleepless nights with feelings of disgrace For staying in a relationship she could no longer take
Too afraid to tell, too in love to leave She thinks about the countless times he left her unable to breathe The blood stained carpet mixed in with her shed tears Hardly ever ate anymore, she was only fed fear
Now she was expecting Unknowing of know what to do, her thoughts began collecting She wouldn't bring a child to this home with his blatant disrespecting She finally realized there is no chance of reconnecting
She went out the next day asking a friend for some sort protection He told her "just aim and shoot it'll only take a second" She sat calmly on the couch patiently waiting for him to enter As soon as he walked in, she knew it was now or never She gave him one last memory of her remember
It's never ok to hit a woman and vice versa. Whatever it leads to is never a good thing. © 2011 Michael MercadoAuthor's Note
