Rat Race

Rat Race

A Poem by Yellow Wax Wings
"

The poem I wrote to celebrate making it through high school in one piece.

"

I never thought I’d live to see this day.

I never thought I’d see my senior year.

I lost a lot of friends along the way.

I can’t say I got through it all with cheer.

Sometimes when I look at my reflection

In the mirror hanging on the wall,

I see the scars of my past depression.

I almost resemble a lifeless doll.

It’s so hard to get up out of bed

And face the day like I know that I should.

When I think of those walls that I will tread

My limbs begin to feel a lot like wood.

Maybe someday I will learn to face

This life that seems to be a huge rat race.
