I Am Who I Am

I Am Who I Am

A Poem by Yellow Wax Wings
"

Just a little something I wrote after coming out.

"

I am who I am.

There's no changing me.

Your "tolerance" is a sham;

I just want to be free.

Why do you care so much

about how I identify?

Your mind is filled with muck,

but that doesn't justify

the way you use your beliefs

to control my mind.

It will be such a relief

when you finally learn to be kind.

I always thought that you

would be the one person

that I could turn to

when life becomes a burden.

But now that that time has come,

you've left me all alone.

Do you think I'm that dumb?

Maybe I am; I should have known.

I should I known that you can't be trusted.

I should have known that you would shut me out.

When I came out you looked absolutely disgusted.

Now you won't listen to matter how much I shout.

But it doesn't matter anymore,

because no matter how much hated you show

it won't change what I live for.

It won't change who I am, although

you may want it to be that way.

I am who I am,

and no matter how much you may hate me,

you can't change me.
