A Care in the WorldA Poem by Yellow Wax WingsA short little poem about an old friend. The sun shines above our
heads, And a gentle breeze rustles
the leaves around our branch-bed. It’s like nature is on our
side as we hide from our responsibilities And pretend we’re far away
from the city. There wasn’t a care in the world
as our feet dangle high above the grass.
After a while we hop out of
the tree and walk down The path that leads to a
pond at the edge of town. We jump in fully clothed; We were so close to town
that we didn’t want to be exposed. There wasn’t a care in the
world as we moved among the Lili pads.
We went on a walk after we
finished swimming, Walking hand in hand with
our arms swinging. Birds sang their songs all
around us. When we came a little too
close, a squirrel began to make a fuss. There wasn’t a care in the
world as we walked between the trees.
It began to get dark and we
realized it was late. We headed home and you left
me at my gate. My heart dropped away as you
turned your back, The night ahead seeming
pitch black. © 2016 Yellow Wax WingsReviews
